We have been dealing with the SECRET INGREDIENTS OF A PERFECT LOVE ENVIRONMENT. If the first and second ingredients are fun and food, the third is finance. Today we want to explore the impact that finance can have on your romance or better still the impact that money can have on your honey. In observing the first love environment Eden, I noticed that the creator had rivers in place. The first of which was Pishon. The river encompassed Havilah, where there was gold, good gold, bdellium and the onyx stone. All of these speak about multifaceted wealth as a crucial element of the perfect love environment.
It is important to be realistic about the value that finance has on a love that will thrive. In the height of our emotional ecstasy for one another, we have a tendency to downplay the financial element especially in courtship, only to fight about the subject in marriage. One reason why we shy away from financial issues is because we don’t want to come across as greedy people who are more interested in money than our partner. While this concern is legitimate, money issues should be addressed as much as possible before the love is consummated.
- Money may not buy love but MONEY CAN DESTROY it. It is no longer news that a large percentage of the people who get divorced globally, do so over money problems. This means that mutual financial education for couples in love could be one of the greatest investments they can make to guarantee the longevity of their relationship. Couples must be willing to ask and answer the hard financial questions of each other before life asks them to answer it.
- Money may not buy love but MONEY CAN CONFIRM IT. Almost nothing measures the direction of the heart like the spending patterns of a person. Where your heart is your treasure will be also. Beware when a person who claims to love you is not investing their financial resources into you, their heart is probably not with you. You can’t love a thing and not spend on it. It is absolutely impossible. The genuine love for a thing is often accompanied with a fervent desire to spend on it. It doesn’t matter if the thing is football, cars or clothes. A first century writer hit the nail on the head when he said, “And I will gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved”. Real lovers gladly spend and are spent for one another. The only exception to this rule is when a partner doesn’t have. However, real lovers that lack, always give in kind to compensate for their lack of money. But this shouldn’t be a regular occurrence. All serious minded lovers should have financial freedom as a goal. Greed and authentic love cannot co-exist.
- Money may not buy love but MONEY CAN DEMONSTRATE IT. The great thing about money is that it can be used to express the value we have for others in form of gifts, trips, and events just to mention but a few. Unfortunately some love money and use people, whereas a genuine lover uses money to love people. Over the past five years or so, I have disciplined myself to offer my wife a gift every week and she has also done more. All of these won’t have been possible if we lacked the financial wherewithal.
- Money might not buy love but MONEY CAN PRESERVE IT. One of the privileges of money is that it affords us the privilege preservation and extension. Many awesome love stories have been cut short by the tragic occurrence of sicknesses or accidents. Sometimes these has led to the death of a partner while the other partner looks on helplessly. Sometimes these loses could have been averted if they had enough funds to get first class medical attention for their loved ones. The global medical solution might have extended the victim’s life span.
- Money might not buy love but it CAN DELAY ITS CONSUMMATION. It is alarming to see the number of lovers who have been unable to wed their beloved because of the sheer volume of financial investment required to make it happen. This is especially true in my nation and continent, where simple wedding ceremonies have been turned into complex community festivals of colossal waste. Most of the funds wasted on these societal events would have been more than sufficient for the couples to establish thriving enterprises for generations to come. My advice to upcoming couples with humble means is that they tailor their wedding arrangement to the money they have at hand and not try to impress anybody, period! Even if that means having twelve guests at your wedding.
We could go on but let me conclude by saying that money might not buy love but it certainly can amplify it, appreciate it and even celebrate it. It is time to develop a robust financial strategy for your love life, detailing how money will be earned, spent, saved, invested, multiplied, managed and given away. This financial excellence will go a long way to guarantee the success and longevity of your love life for years to come.
